The following requirements must be met for a tool to be listed on
opensourceforensics.org:
- The tool must be useful during a digital investigation.
- The source code for the tool must be "easily accessible" from the website or clear instructions must be given on
how to obtain the source code (which may be at a fee).
- If the tool is distributed in binary form, then
a copy of any non-standard libraries should also be
provided (OpenSSL for example).
The goal of these requirements is to allow an investigator to
view the source code of the tools that are used in an
investigation. This allows her to better testify about
the findings if they are challenged.
Submitting New Entries
If you have a tool or other digital investigation-related material that meets the above
requirements, submit the following form:
To correct an existing entry, email
me (carrier at opensourceforensics dot org).
Note that many of the bootable Linux CDs that people use do not
come with full source code. The ISO image can be downloaded, but
not the source code for the kernel and standard utilities.
